In March 2026, Russia saw a sharp surge in demand for tools to bypass online restrictions, with downloads increasing 14-fold. Users downloaded such applications 9.2 million times from Google Play alone, while the total number of installations for the entire first quarter exceeded 21 million.

This growth occurs alongside tightening measures by regulators, who blocked 70% more online resources over the last three months and removed 116 apps from the App Store. Such access restrictions lead to declining user activity even on marketplaces, while the Ministry of Digital Development warns IT companies of removal from the official registry if they allow logins via secure protocols.
