Recently, one of the largest blocking waves occurred, affecting the IP addresses of several major hosting providers and disrupting 20 popular services. This happened following demands from the Ministry of Digital Development to tighten control over hostings masking restricted traffic as permitted corporate networks. The expert believes that similar restriction waves could repeat throughout the year.
Cost-effectiveness and alternative options
Denis Kuskov questioned the feasibility of spending billions of rubles on blocking, as users continue to find ways to bypass restrictions. Instead of limitations, the expert suggested the government consider creating a free domestic alternative for all citizens.
